Why Christmas Handprint Crafts Tick All the Boxes!

You know, handprint crafts are so much more than just a cute decoration for the fridge (although, let’s be real, those tiny handprints are pretty darn adorable!).

Every single one captures a special moment in time – a little snapshot of how tiny those hands once were, a reminder of all the love and cuddles that went into making them grow.

It’s like a story whispered in paint, a tale of how fast they’re changing and all the precious memories we’re making along the way.

There’s so many more bonuses that make them perfect:

  • Difficulty Level: Easy Peasy: You don’t need to be artsy fartsy to make a beautiful handprint craft that’s good enough to gift with these gorgeous done-for-you templates. Even the tinest hands (like babies & toddlers) can participate
  • Budget Friendly: these days money can be tight but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a special piece, no fancy materials needed, just some paint, paper and a printer
  • Keepsake Gift: These crafts are more than just a gift; they’re a precious reminder of how small those little hands once were
  • Making Memories: you can never have enough Christmas traditions! Get ready for some laughs and messy fun as you create your masterpieces

What Supplies Do You Need For Christmas Handprint Art?

One of my favorite things about handprint crafts is the minimal prep and supplies needed to execute an epic day of fun with some messy sensory pay.

I’ve created this bundle of Christmas Handprint Craft Templates to make the process super easy and quick to re-create these crafts at home with very little prep.

But if you consider yourself artsy or just love to craft, then you could probably create your own templates using mine for inspo.

If that doesn’t sound like you, no worries, just grab the templates and get crafting the easy way.

The bundle includes 16 templates so you can reuse them year after year and create new crafts!

To create your special DIY gift for grandma, grandpa or some other special family and friends, all you’ll really need is  US Letter size paper (8.5\ x 11′) to print your templates.

Personally, I really like using cardstock paper for crafts that involve paint because it’s thick and sturdy and holds up well with wet paint.

You’ll also need some non-toxic washable paint and either a paintbrush (so you can paint your little one’s hand before they add their print) or pour some paint onto a paper plate and let the stick their hands right in.

If you want a less messy option than paint, you could also try large ink pads.

PRO TIP: To make cleaning up easier, make sure to cover your crafting table/area with some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth that you can just toss when you’re done.

Since I do these pretty much for every holiday with my class, I grab the giant roll of plastic tablecloths.

And don’t forget to have some paper towels ready so you’re little one doesn’t decide to clean up by wiping their hands on their shirt (true story).

Easy Christmas Handprint Craft Ideas

I’ve created a bunch of different Christmas handprint craft templates to choose from. Below you’ll see exactly what’s included in my template bundle.

If you decide to grab mine, you’ll get instant access to download all 12 templates as a pdf file and I’ve also included the mock up images you see below so you have a reference picture in case you forget how they’re supposed to look.

Although you can always change out a handprint for a footprint or vice-versa.

1. Christmas Tree Lights Fingerprint Craft

cute Christmas tree finger print lights handprint art

This first one is a favorite of mine!

This beautiful watercolor Christmas tree is adorned with lights made up of your little one’s fingerprints.

Each light has a white oval space for your child to add their colorful fingerprints to.

If you don’t want too much mess to deal with, this little number is super simple and incredibly fun!

2. Christmas Wreath Handprint Art

Christmas art featuring Christmas wreath with handprint in the middle

If you love something sweet and simple then try this cute Christmas wreath with a handprint in the middle.

It’s cute and minimalistic, all you need is to add it to a frame and it’s ready to gift.

You could also create an entire Christmas wreath with multiple handprints in a circle and add little fingerprint berries to complete your masterpiece .

3. Santa Handprint Craft Idea

cute Christmas santa handprint craft idea

Santa Claus is coming to town, and he’s bringing a touch of handprint magic with him!

This adorable Santa handprint craft let’s your little one create Santa’s beard with their handprints.

Since the beard is white, I had to create a colored background for this image so it takes quite a bit of ink to print.

I would get this one printed at staples or your local printer and save yourself some ink.

4. JOY Christmas Handprint Craft for Kids

Here’s another sweet and simple one that makes an impact.

I love the calming colors on this one. It reads Joy to the world and your little one’s handprint makes the O.

I think yellow or gold would look lovely for this one but you can choose whatever you love.

I love the idea of having a few Christ-centered handprint crafts like this one to celebrate the true meaning of the holidays.

This is another perfect one for gifting.

5. Joy Ornament Handprint Idea

cute Christmas handprint craft spelling Joy

I also wanted to include a version with more traditional Christmas colors like this cute candy cane inspired JOY handprint craft.

You’ll notice your little one gets to add their handprint in the center of an ornament. I would opt for white here as it will show up best on the red and keep with the red and white candy cane theme.

This is another sweet one for gifting!

6. Christian Christmas Handprint Craft

cute Christian Christmas handprint craft of Nativity scene

I wanted to include a few Christian Christmas handprint crafts for those of you sharing the story of the birth of Jesus with your little ones this holiday season.

This sweet handprint craft features the nativity scene where your little one’s hand will be the shining North star.

It’s completed with the bible verse “For Unto Us a Child is Born” Isaiah 9:6.

7. Mistletoes Footprint Craft

Christmas footprint craft that reads mistletoes

I think this one is super cute!

It reads: I love you from my head to my mistletoes and leaves a space for you to add your little one’s adorable footprints.

Who wouldn’t love to receive a set of these adorable mistle-toes for Christmas?

We’ve got a new little brother joining us this year so this is the one I’ll be creating with the baby.

8. Christmas Stocking Footprint Art

cute Christmas stocking footprint craft to make with toddlers

Here’s another cute footprint idea, although you could use handprints here if you prefer but I thought since they were stockings, footprints just made sense.

It reads: stockings filled with the magic of Christmas and has 1 stocking hung and spots left open for 2 more stockings.

You can add your little one’s cute footprints or handprints in those spaces.

9. Rudolph’s Christmas Lights

cute Rudolph Christmas handprint craft

We can’t forget the most famous reindeer of all, can we?

This cute craft reads: Oh deer! Christmas is here!

You’ll see a little swiggly line between Rudolph’s antlers. This is suppose to be a string of Christmas lights.

Only, the lights are missing so have your little one add Christmas lights of whatever colors they love using their fingerprints.

Make sure to add some lights above and below the line.

10. Rudolph Reindeer Handprint Craft

cute Reindeer Christmas handprint craft

Have you ever noticed that little hands are the perfect shape for reindeer antlers?

This cute craft reads: Merry Christmas My Deer!

If your little one loves Rudolph they’ll love creating this cute craft.

11. Let It Snow Man Footprint Craft

cute snowman handprint craft

This cute snowman is made with a tiny white footprint but you could use a handprint if you prefer.

Since this one also uses white paint, you’ll notice the background is colored in.

This is another one that’ll use up quite a bit of ink to create that background color so I would send this one to a print shop if you’re worried about ink use.

It’s the perfect winter handprint craft and reads let it snow!

12. Snow Globe Handprint Craft

cute and easy snow globe handprint craft

This adorable snow globe handprint craft has your little one create a handprint Christmas tree inside of a snow globe.

Who doesn’t love shaking snow globes and watching the little flakes trickle about?

This cute template has a simple holiday greeting: “Merry and Bright”.

13. Chrsitmas Lights Handprint Art

string of Christmas lights handprint craft

Nothing screams Christmas quite like colorful twinkly lights.

With this cute handprint craft your little one can use their handprint or footprints to create the light bulbs in whatever color they like.

Fittingly, the greeting here is “May your Christmas be merry & bright”.

14. Christmas Tree Handprint Craft

cute Christmas tree handprint craft

You can’t forget about Christmas trees.

You can use as many handprint layers to make your Christmas tree as you like.

We only did 2 here with larger hands but with smaller hands you could do several layers and create a nice multi-layered tree.

You can even mix different shades of green to give it some contrast.

15. Grinch Themed Handprint Craft For Kids

cute Grinch themed Christmas handprint craft

One of my favorite family traditions is watching How The Grinch Stole Christmas and then doing a Grinch themed craft with the kids.

This adorable Grinch themed Christmas handprint is the perfect activity to add to your holiday movie traditions.

Your little one’s hand will be the cute and colorful ornament being stolen by the Grinch. How cute is that?!

Of course, we cant forget our holiday greeting, in this case, merry Grinchmas!

16. Gingerbread Man Handprint Craft

cute Christmas gingerbread man handprint craft

For our last handprint craft we have this adorable Christmas gingerbread man handprint art! It reads: Gingerbread kisses & Christmas wishes!

Isn’t it cute?

This would be a great follow-up craft if you’re reading the gingerbread man story.
